Telecom Equipment Market Expected to Suffer a Sharp Downturn in 2009
The global telecommunications equipment market grew by close to 5% in 2008: a moderate rate of growth that involved a shift in the contribution made by handset components and infrastructure hardware reports IDATE. Q3 Mobile Handset Shipments in China up 8.1% on Year Ago

India to Announce $9 Billion Network Contract on Wednesday

India's BSNL Delays $6.5 Billion GSM Network Tender
In a move which probably wont surprise industry watchers, India's Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has decided to delay the date for opening its monster US$6.5 billion tender for GSM infrastructure kit. The bids were due to be opened on July 16 - but will now not be opened until August 30th. BSNL has a track record of delaying, amending and renegotiating its GSM network tenders - but this time put the blame firmly at the flood of interest in the tender. more

Compound Growth Rate for China's Mobile TV Output - Report
China's CCID Consulting, has reported that with the drive of export and domestic demands, China's mobile phone output continues to grow in 2007, reaching 554 million sets, with a growth rate of 25.4%. The export volume wass 322 million sets, which accounts for 58.2% of all phones made in the country. Currently, China's global mobile phone manufacturing base is quite steady. Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson have transferred their capacities to China; because of this factor, the export volume of China's mobile phone increases 26.2%. Meanwhile, China's domestic mobile phone enterprises' capacity increases are evident, especially ZTE, huawei and K-Touch. more

BSNL Clarifies $6.5 Billion GSM Contract Details
India's state owned BSNL has clarified some of the conditions surrounding the monster sized US$6.5 billion GSM tender which was announced last week. The tender document stated that only companies with a turnover exceeding US$2 billion for the past two years and deployments of at least 20 million GSM lines - excluding any prior sales to BSNL - may participate in the contract bid. This will however still permit China's ZTE and huawei to tender for the contract. more

Huawei PS-CN Helps Mobily Revs up HSDPA Deployment
huawei says it has been selected to provide Packet Switched Core Network (PS-CN) for HSDPA deployment of Mobily in Saudi Arabia. When completed, this will be one of the world's largest Packet Core installations and the company says that it is expected carry the highest data traffic of any network. more
