Huawei delivers China Unicom' s first 3G network in Zhengzhou

huawei says that it has deployed China' s first WCDMA commercial network for China Unicom in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China. In China Unicom' s Phase One UMTS tender, huawei was awarded the largest market share of over 30 percent based on number of transceiver to be deployed.  more

ZTE, Other 3G Device Providers Play Active Role in Deploying 3G Networks in China

CCID, a research firm in China disclosed recently in an industry report which predicted that the rapid deployment of 3G networks in China will eventually result in the creation of about 660,000 3G subscriber lines by Q3 this year. Voice over LTE Initiative Launched

A group of leaders in the wireless industry comprised of Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, huawei, Kineto Wireless, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nortel, Samsung, Starent Networks, T-Mobile and ZTE have announced a joint effort, referred to as the Voice over LTE via Generic Access (VoLGA) Forum. The joint effort aims to define a set of specifications within the forum for enabling delivery of voice services over LTE access networks based on the current 3GPP Generic Access Network (GAN) standard.  more

O2 Germany to Upgrade Network to Support 28Mbps Data Download Speeds

Telefónica O2 Germany has announced plans to upgrade its network to HSPA+, and start offering peak download speeds of up to 28Mbps in the second half of this year. The network upgrade will initially occur in Munich - where O2 has its headquarters. more

Global Mobile Market to Exceed US$900 Billion in 2008

A report from IDATE says that the world telecom services market is estimated at US$1,365 billion in 2008 - a 4.2% increase over the year before - and is expected to be worth over US$1,416 billion in 2009. With a total turnover estimated at US$742.2 billion in 2008, mobile services account for 54% of the telecom services market and single handedly deliver all of the sector's growth. But the annual growth rate has dropped from more than 12% in 2007 to 8% in 2008.  more

MTS Launches Trial 3G Network in Uzbekistan

Russian mobile operator, MTS has announced the launch of a test zone of its 3G network in Uzbekistan and technical readiness for commercial launch in late 2008. Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, became the first city in the region where MTS launched its next-generation network. The Company plans to cover the entire city and to announce the commercial launch by the end of the year. Additional cities will be launched in 2009, including Samarkand, Bukhara, and Andijan.  more

Huawei Wins Czech 3G and GSM Network Contract

Telefƒ³nica O2 Czech Republic says that it has awarded a contract to huawei to provide UMTS network infrastructure and modernization of its 2G network to include an EDGE upgrade. No financial details were provided.

Huawei Wins Egyptian Network Contract

huawei has signed a contract with Egyptian telecom operator, Etisalat Misr, for the expansion of the country's third mobile network in Egypt. Under this contract huawei will provide an end to end solution to build wireless access network, core network and transmission network for Etisalat Misr.  more

Huawei Doubles GSM and 3G Transceiver Shipments

China's huawei has announced that its UMTS and GSM transceivers (TRXs) shipments recorded over 100 percent growth in the first half of 2008 as compared to the same period last year. In the GSM space, huawei delivered 800,000 TRXs, more than the total number of shipments for the whole of 2007 in the first six months of 2008. 400,000 TRXs were delivered in China and India alone.  more
