TOT Awards $530 Million 3G Contract to Nokia Siemens Networks and Huawei

Bharti Airtel Launches India's Latest 3G Network

­India's Bharti Airtel - now just plain Airtel - has launched its 3G network, with coverage initially in the southern Karnataka state, whose capital is the technology hub of Bangalore. The company expects to offer 3G services in 40 cities by March across all of its 13 licensed areas, and expand the services to 1,500 cities and towns within a year.  more

ZTE Tops China Mobile 3G Contract

ZTE is reported to have picked up just over a third of the latest TD-SCDMA tender from China Mobile, reports the Interfax news agency. huawei won 22% of the contract, while Datang Telecom was awarded 16%. Other equipment manufacturers share the remainder, every company to have 5-6%.  more

Huawei to Deploy HSPA Upgrade in Vietnam

Vietmanese ­mobile network operator, Viettel says that it has signed a network upgrade contract with huawei for HSPA services to be delivered by the end of 2009. Local newspaper, Thanh Nien reported that huawei will build more than 3,000 base stations throughout Vietnam, including in Hanoi, Da Nang and parts of Ho Chi Minh City.  more

Huawei Full-Year Profits Jump 20 Percent

China's huawei Technologies has bucked the economic downturn and reported a 20% rise in full year profits for 2008 to US$1.15 billion. Revenues rose by 43% to reach $18.33 billion - slightly above the unaudited figures offered earlier this year.  more

Vodafone Rebrands its Ghana Subsidiary

Ghana Telecom has been rebranded as Vodafone Ghana and launched a brand new website. After buying a 70 per cent shareholding in the Ghana Telecommunication Company in August 2008, partnering with the Government of Ghana, Vodafone says that it has made significant investments to improve the performance and to expand the capacity of its networks. Vodafone has also signed a multi-million dollar deal with huawei Technologies to bring its 3G network services to the Ghanaian market.  more

Huawei Wins CDMA Contract from Cox Communications

huawei has confirmed reports which emerged last week that it has selected to provide its end to end CDMA solution and services to Cox Communications in the USA. Cox, the third-largest cable provider in the United States, is planning to launch a 3G wireless network utilizing huawei's LTE-ready SingleRAN solution and 3900 Series base stations.  more
