Worldwide Mobile Phone Sales Down 6% - Smartphones Up 27% in Q2

Worldwide mobile phone sales totalled 286.1 million units in the second quarter of 2009, a 6.1 per cent decrease from the second quarter of 2008, according to Gartner. Smartphone sales surpassed 40 million units, a 27 per cent increase from the same period last year, representing the fastest-growing segment of the mobile-devices market.  more

Q1 Worldwide Mobile Phone Sales Declined 9.4% - Smartphones Grew 12.7%

Worldwide mobile phone sales totalled 269.1 million units in the first quarter of 2009, a 9.4 per cent decrease from the first quarter of 2008, according to Gartner. Smartphone sales surpassed 36.4 million units, a 12.7 per cent increase from the same period last year.  more

Fractus Sues Ten Cellphone Manufacturers for Patent Infringement

Ten mobile phone vendors are being sued for allegedly infringing patents relating to internal antennas used on their handsets. Spanish antenna manufacturer, Fractus says that is has sued Samsung, LG, RIM, Pantech, Kyocera, Palm, htc, Sharp, UTStarcom, and Sanyo for infringing nine different patents.  more

The list is based on number of pieces of model specific mobile and smart phone cases ordered from Krusell during April 2009. Krusell's list is unique due to the fact that it reflects the sales of phones on six continents and in more than 50 countries around the globe.

Smartphone Market Share Increased Rapidly Worldwide According to AdMob

Nokia Smartphone Sales Fall as RIM, Apple, Samsung Take Market Share

In the fourth quarter of 2008, worldwide sales of smartphones to end users reached 38.1 million units, an increase of 3.7 per cent on the fourth quarter of 2007, according to Gartner. Global sales of smartphones for 2008 reached 139.3 million devices, up 13.9 per cent compared with 2007. more

Are Smartphones Immune to the Financial Crisis in Western Europe?

The market for Western European converged mobile devices (commonly referred to as smartphones) experienced a good performance in the last quarter of 2008. According to IDC's European Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped 9.3 million units, 25.9% higher than the 7.4 million shipped in 4Q07. For the full year 2008, vendors shipped 31.9 million units, 36.1% higher than the 23.5 million units shipped in 2007.  more
