Apple Poor at Converting iPhone Queries into iPhone Sales
Nielsen Mobile has estimated that there are 3.6 million mobile subscribers 13+ actively using the Apple iPhone, as of October 2008. While some sources suggest that the iPhone has overtaken MotorolaÃ's RAZR in sales, their analysis of Q3 acquisitions shows a very close race at the top. Among those subscribers who acquired their phone in the past three months, iPhone had a 3% market share in Q3 2008, behind the Motorola RAZR V3 series which still had a 5% share of recently acquired devices. more

Taiwanese OEMs Switching from Ericsson to Qualcomm for 3G Phones
Taiwan's handset manufacturers are increasingly switching from the Ericsson mobile phone platform to Qualcomm's own handset platform - report local industry sources. Sources told DigiTimes that because htc has had good success with its Qualcomm-based 3G handsets, other major handset vendors such as Motorola, LG Electronics, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Palm all intend to adopt the Qualcomm platform for their 3G products. more

Financial Crisis Hits Mobile Phone Sales as Q3 Shipment Growth Slows
The worldwide mobile phone industry felt the impact of the global financial crisis in the third quarter of 2008 (3Q08) as total handset shipments were down significantly over previous quarters. Mobile phone manufacturers shipped a total of 299.0 million handsets in 3Q08, up 3.2% from last year, and down -0.4% over 2Q08. The third quarter of the year has historically been a ramp-up quarter as manufacturers load their sales channels with handsets in preparation for the holiday season, producing year-over-year growth rates as high as 20% as a result. This year has not witnessed a similar ramp up, largely due to the current economic situation. more

HTC Expects to Sell Up To 2 Million Google Phones by End 2009
Taiwan's htc is expected to sell some between 1.5 and 2 million Android based "Google Phones" to T-Mobile USA, with up to 500,000 being sold before the end of this year. Sources say that the new handset should boost htc revenues by NT$18 billion (US$560 million) next year. more
