Austria Gets Europe's First HSPA+ Mobile Data Network

Telekom Austria's mobile subsidiary, mobilkom austria, has become the first operator in Europe to launch HSPA+ services - offering a potential mobile data download speed of 21 Mbps. In a first step, HSPA+ will be rolled-out in Vienna's 10th district, with further hotspots following throughout the country by the second quarter of 2009.  more

Optimising the Interoperation of UMTS and GSM at 900 MHZ

Qualcomm Introduces 2nd-Gen Embedded Module for Mobile Internet Access

Qualcomm has introduced its second-generation embedded Gobi module, delivering multi-mode 3G mobile Internet access on either HSPA or CDMA2000 EV-DO networks in markets around the world. The Gobi2000 module offers a wide range of enhancements, including support for additional radio frequencies, increased data speeds, enhanced GPS functionality and support for additional operating systems such as Windows 7.  more

100 Million New UMTS Subscribers in Past Year

3G Americas, a wireless industry trade association representing the GSM family of technologies has reported that UMTS/HSPA technology added over 100 million subscriptions in the twelve months ending in the third quarter 2008 - achieving a significant milestone in subscriber additions.  more

Israeli Operator Orders 3G Fault Management Platform

OSS vendor, TTI Telecom has been chosen by Israel's Pelephone to provide the Fault Management solution for the operator's UMTS network. The solution expands upon PelephoneĆ's current OSS solution, also provided by TTI Telecom in 1996, which manages CDMA 1xRTT and EVDO based on Nortel and Motorola products.  more

GSA Says Over 200 HSDPA Networks Worldwide

Over 200 HSDPA systems worldwide have launched commercial mobile broadband services, according to the latest research published by GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association. The GSA survey confirms 207 HSDPA networks have launched in 89 countries. This compares with 126 commercial HSDPA networks in 63 countries reported by GSA 12 months previously.  more

Italian Mobile Communications: Market Ready to Face New Challenges

Italy has the highest 3G penetration in Europe and 3Italia achieved over 700,000 subscribers for its Mobile TV service by August 2007. Now iPhone is taking centre stage over the UMTS networks of mobile operators TIM and Vodafone. "This looks like it's a done deal and if it is the case, then it just goes to show that between the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008 Italy has been a hotbed for mobile communications" says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Saverio Romeo.  more
