Telefonica Conducts 1st Tests of LTE Network in Spain
Spain's Telefónica has conducted its first tests on a live LTE network, installed at its Demonstrations Centre in Madrid. These initial real demonstrations or tests consisted of a VoIP call, and a videocall using an LTE mini-network installed by Ericsson; a video conference, and data and images downloads at speeds in excess of 140 Mbps, around 10 times those possible with current 3G networks using HSPA technology. more

BSNL To Start Selling 3G USB Modems
Indian mobile phone manufacturer, Micromax says that it has secured a distribution deal with state-owned mobile network operator, BSNL for its 3G USB Modems. BSNL is currently rolling out its 3G network, and currently covers 11 cities - with the intention to cover approx 700 cities in the next 2-3 months. more

Qtel Adds HSUPA Upgrade to its 3G Network
Qatar Telecom (Qtel) says that it has added hsupa to its network - to boost the upload speed of its 3G network to around 1Mbps. The enhancement follows on from Qtel's upgrade to its national HSDPA to boost download speeds to 7.2 Mbps more

iPass Mobile Broadband Network Expands to Scandinavia
Wi-Fi roaming provider, iPass announced a partnership agreement with 3 Scandinavia, part of the Hutchison Whampoa 3 Group of companies, which will provide iPass customers with access to its 3G network in Sweden - including mobile data in-bundle roaming into Denmark. Under the terms of the agreement, iPass will integrate 3's HSDPA and hsupa network into its iPass Mobile Office service, which unifies remote and mobile connectivity across more than 160 countries. more

Israeli Operator Orders 3G Fault Management Platform
OSS vendor, TTI Telecom has been chosen by Israel's Pelephone to provide the Fault Management solution for the operator's UMTS network. The solution expands upon PelephoneÃ's current OSS solution, also provided by TTI Telecom in 1996, which manages CDMA 1xRTT and EVDO based on Nortel and Motorola products. more

StarHub Tripple 3G Data Upload Speeds
Singapore's StarHub has upgraded its HSPA network nationwide to 5.76Mbps on the uplink, tripling its current mobile broadband upload capacity of 1.9Mbps. When completed in end December 2008, the upgrade will make StarHub the first operator in Asia to have a nationwide High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (hsupa) network at 5.76Mbps. more

NEC Wins "Super 3G" Contract in Japan
Japan's NTT DoCoMo has contracted with NEC to provide core network EPC (Evolved Packet Core) systems that support NTT DoCoMoÃ's "Super 3G" next generation mobile phone networks. Super3G is a standard system and an advanced version of the W-CDMA-extended technologies HSDPA and hsupa, which achieves data transmission speeds of 100Mbps or more in downlink and 50Mbps or more in uplink access. more

Vodafone Starts Selling 3G PC Card for 900Mhz HSPA Networks
Option has started shipping a new wireless broadband ExpressCard to Vodafone - which also supports HSPA services at 900Mhz.
