Tanzania's Internet Cafes Using Vodacom HSPA Network for Backhaul
Vodacom Tanzania, supported by the GSMA Development Fund and Qualcomm has connected Internet cafes in three of Tanzania's cities to its hspa mobile broadband network. Run by local entrepreneurs, each Internet cafe is equipped with several computer terminals connected to Vodacom's hspa network, which can provide download speeds of up to 7.2 megabits per second. more

South Africa's Cell C Considering 3G Launch Possibilities

South Africa's Cell C Dismisses 3G as "hype"
When South Africa's smallest GSM network operator, Cell C announced its first ever operating profit, at the presentation - CEO, Jeffrey Hedberg dismissed 3G as "hype". He said that while the operator's core network is configured to support 3G services, the company would not invest in the air interface as it does not offer a good return on the investment. more
