"Gigabyte-ready" network pricing could boost mobile broadband growth

The widespread deployment of hspa has increased the speed and data capacity of 3G networks dramatically, removing technology barriers of launching true mass market mobile broadband. But simply upgrading to hspa technology is not sufficient if operators are also to profit from new & faster mobile data services. Ericsson Wins 4-Year 3G Upgrade Contract in Turkey

Turkish operator Avea has signed a four year contract with Ericsson for a WCDMA/hspa upgrade. Under the agreement, Ericsson will be one of the main suppliers and will integrate and deploy WCDMA/hspa radio access and packet core networks, as well as a complete mobile-backhaul solution based on microwave transmission and optical transport.  more

Taiwan Operator Upgrades 3G Network

Nokia Siemens Networks has won a ¢â€š¬72 million (US$115 million) contract to expand the 3G network operated by Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom. The contract will enable the operator to trial Nokia Siemens Networks' Internet High Speed Access (I-hspa) network.  more

Telstra Activates "3G Direct Tunnel" on its HSDPA Network

Australia's Telstra has activated an important new feature for the Mobile Packet Core network called 3G Direct Tunnel on their WCDMA/hspa network. The equipment for this was provided by Ericsson. The 3G Direct Tunnel feature provides a direct connection between the 3G networks RNC (Radio Network Controller) and GGSN (Gateway GPRS Support Node), hence capacity increase to Telstra's mobile packet core network.  more

Ericsson Completes Greek Network Upgrade

Ericsson says that it has successfully upgraded and expanded the GSM/WCDMA core network for Greek telecom operator WIND Hellas. The sole supplier contract included the swap to Ericsson's WCDMA/GSM common core network solution.  more

Ericsson to supply HSPA Network to STC in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Telecom (STC) has selected Ericsson as the prime supplier for its new hspa network. Under the agreement Ericsson will deliver packet core, radio access and transmission for the new network in the central and western provinces of Saudi Arabia. more
