BSNL Launches 3G Services in 11 Cities

Ericsson has issued an update on its Sept 2007 contract win from India's BSNL - and says it achieved the country's biggest simultaneous launch of 3G services to date, across 11 major cities. As part of its roll-out strategy, BSNL plans to launch 3G services using WCDMA/hspa technology across more than 700 cities in the first phase.  more

Peru's Mobile Telephony to Surpass US$2.7 Billion in Revenues by 2013

Peru's Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversiƒłn) plans to auction off 821 - 824 MHz and 866 - 869 MHZ radio-electric spectrum for Lima and Callao along with 25 MHz on C-band (1.900 MHz) nationwide. Mexican Mobile Telephony Revenues Will Surpass $11.9 Billion Mark by 2013

Signals Telecom Consulting has published a report which examines the Mexican mobile services market with a focus on the Value Added Services (VAS) offered by local mobile operators. The report notes that the Mexican market is characterized by a VAS offering focused on SMS services. The slowdown in subscriber growth and the development of 3G networks, however, will force operators to aggressively pursue a VAS offering that is not focused on text messaging.  more

Huawei Wins 3G Upgrade Contract in Singapore

Singapore's StarHub has appointed Huawei Technologies to expand and upgrade its current nation-wide 3.5G mobile broadband network to hspa+ by 2Q-2009. hspa+ will boost StarHub's current mobile broadband speed 1.5 times to 21Mbps (from the current 14.4Mbps) on the downlink, and over five times its uplink capability to 11Mbps (currently 1.9Mbps). In addition, StarHub plans to expand its mobile base station capacity to at least 3,500 base stations in support of its 1.8+ million mobile customers.  more

Huawei and Qualcomm complete Europe's first MBMS field trial

Huawei and Qualcomm have jointly announced the completion of Europe's first MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) field trial, carried out in conjunction with Telecom Italia. MBMS technology is based on 3GPP standards and supports multicast and broadcast services, allowing speeds of up to 256kbps on a mobile device.  more
