HSPA/LTE accounts for 20.6 percent of all PC broadband connections in Europe

­According to a new research report from the analyst firm Berg Insight, hspa/LTE accounted for 20.6 percent of the total number of broadband connections in Europe at the end of 2010. The number of hspa/LTE mobile broadband subscribers (connected PCs and tablets) grew by 33 percent year-on-year in 2010 to reach 33.9 million and is forecasted to continue to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.9 percent to 96 million by 2016.  more

Orange France Tests 3G Services in the 1800Mhz Spectrum Bands

­Orange France has tested hspa services over its existing GSM 1800Mhz spectrum, using equipment supplied by Ericsson, ST-Ericsson, and Quanta Computer. The operator expects to start refarming its 1800Mhz spectrum over to 3G services later this year.  more

Finland's DNA signs LTE contract with Ericsson

­Finnish mobile network operator, DNA has extended an existing agreement with Ericsson to build a hspa and LTE network. During the contract period, DNA's 3G/hspa Evolution (21/42Mbps) services will expand to nationwide coverage. LTE based 4G services will be offered in the major cities to accelerate the data traffic in the busiest areas.  more

ST-Ericsson Achieves LTE to HSPA Handover on Dual-Mode Handset

Wireless platforms and semiconductor vendor, ST-Ericsson says that it has successfully achieved mobility between Ericsson supplied LTE and hspa networks, using its multimode LTE/hspa device. The interoperability was realized in live networks from Ericsson in Stockholm, Sweden, using a multimode device powered by ST-Ericsson's platform, M710.  more

Telecom Italia Launches 28Mbps Mobile Download Service

Telecom Italia has launched what it says is the first city-wide mobile broadband service offering peak speeds of 28 Mbps/s in download and 5.8 Mbps/s in upload. The service has launched in Milan, Italy and will be available in Rome from October. The upgrade was provided by Ericsson.  more

T-Mobile Macedonia Signs HSPA Upgrade Contract

Ericsson has signed an exclusive 4-year upgrade contract with T-Mobile Macedonia for a nationwide hspa-enabled network and modernization of the packet-core network. Ericsson will plan, design and deploy the radio access network, and design, adapt and integrate the packet-core network.  more

Ericsson Launches HSPA Module for Netbook Computers

Ericsson has launched its latest hspa mobile broadband module specifically designed for mini laptop computers, also known as netbooks. Ericsson has also pre-approved its modules with mobile operators in more than 75 countries, allowing netbook manufacturers to cut the product launch phase by shortening the final certification process and enabling faster time to market.  more

Mongolia Gets HSPA Network Upgrade

Mongolian operator MobiCom has launched a hspa upgrade, with the network supplied by Ericsson. The launch enables MobiCom to introduce mobile broadband services to its subscribers across Mongolia, starting in the capital Ulaanbaatar where about 40 percent of the country's 3 million inhabitants live.  more
