DiGi Expands 3G Coverage in Malaysia

Malaysian mobile network operator, DiGi Telecommunications has launched its 3G service in Sabah and Penang just two months after its official launch in Klang Valley as part of an aggressive expansion plan to bring its broadband service to more Malaysians. Ericsson to build 3G network for Turkcell

Ericsson has signed a contract with Turkey's dominant mobile network, Turkcell, as the main supplier to build a complete WCDMA/hspa network and a range of related services. 3G network preparations started in February, and previous comments from the company suggest that it is looking at a partial launch in June.  more

Orange Expands HSPA Coverage in the UK

Orange UK has announced the completion of a network upgrade to expand its hspa coverage in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Some 760 sites across the areas have been upgraded resulting in a 20 per cent improvement in network performance for both voice and data.  more

HSPA expected to drive femtocell market; operators taking cautious approach

High speed packet access (hspa) is shaping up to be the key driver behind future femtocell adoption, says a new report from analyst firm Infonetics Research. Once users are hooked on high speed mobile data services, the report contends, subscribing to a femtocell service could follow to ensure coverage and capacity consistency for services delivered to the home or office.  more

3G Test Calls Made in the GSM Frequency Bands

Nokia and Finnish telecom operator Elisa have carried out the world's first WCDMA/HSDPA data call on the 900 MHz band in a commercial network. The call was conducted in Elisa's live network in Finland, and the equipment included the Nokia Flexi WCDMA Base Station with a special solution for sharing the site infrastructure of the existing GSM base station. more
