Vodacom Strike Battle Escalates
South Africa's Vodacom has said that less than 3% of its 4,300 employees are participating in the ongoing strike action over the company's refusal to recognise the CWU union. Vodacom says that it will recognise the union once it has achieved the legal 30% membership level, but at this time it is far short of that level. more

Nokia Auctioning Special Handsets for Charity
Nokia and the music composer Brian Eno have jointly announced a charity auction to benefit two of Brian's favourite organisations - the Keiskamma Aids Treatment program and The World Land Trust. Starting on January 8th 2007 and ending on Febuary 12th 2007, a total of ten Nokia 8800 Sirocco Brian Eno Signature Edition mobile phones, individually numbered and engraved with Brian Eno's signature, will be auctioned online with all proceeds going directly to both charities. A certificate of authenticity will also accompany each auctioned phone. more

Vodacom Assists AIDS Education in Lesotho
The Vodacom Foundation has donated six rugged-terrain vehicles to assist in hiv education in Lesotho's KwaZulu-Natal. The vehicles will be used for hiv/Aids education by the Bayethe Foundation, of which His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini is the patron. They were formally presented to His Majesty today at a ceremony in Nongoma. more
