The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has made the decision to approve an application from the operators TeliaSonera, Swefour, Tele2, Telenor and hi3g for frequencies in the 900 MHz band. The present licences in the 900 MHz band will be renewed and it will be possible for the operators to phase in new technology for mobile broadband while at the same time continuing to offer GSM mobile telephony.  more

Sweden Proposes Allocating 900Mhz Spectrum to 3G Operator

Sweden's telecoms regulator, the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has decided to distribute a proposed decision concerning the GSM900 band for consultation. The proposal involves the renewal of existing licences in the 900 MHz band, but also that the entire frequency space available in the 900 MHz band should be allocated, which would enable 3G operator, hi3g to gain access to frequency space in the 900 MHz band. In addition, it would be possible for operators to progress to new technology and supply wireless broadband to a greater extent.  more

Sweden Finishes "4G" Spectrum Auction

Sweden Rejects CDMA450 for Rural 3G

Sweden's telecoms regulator, the PTS has declined requests to allow alternative 3G technologies to be used in the country's rural areas. PTS has decided that the 3G operators hi3g (3), Tele 2/Telia and Vodafone shall continue to roll-out 3G in Sweden using UMTS infrastructure. Two of the operators have applied to use the alternative technology CDMA 450 for the remaining part of the roll-out. more
