Denmark Asked to Lower Mobile Termination Rates for 3G Operator

­The European Commission has written to the Danish telecoms regulator asking it to abolish the difference in mobile termination rates between the incumbent operators and the new 3G entrant, hi3g. The regulator, NITA is proposing to reduce the MTRs from 2010 to 0.43 DKK/min for TDC, Telenor and TeliaSonera, but at a higher rate of 0.51 DKK/min for H3iG.  more

3G Operator, Hi3G Granted 900Mhz Spectrum in Sweden

The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has made the decision to approve an application from the operators TeliaSonera, Swefour, Tele2, Telenor and hi3g for frequencies in the 900 MHz band. The present licences in the 900 MHz band will be renewed and it will be possible for the operators to phase in new technology for mobile broadband while at the same time continuing to offer GSM mobile telephony.  more

Sweden Proposes Allocating 900Mhz Spectrum to 3G Operator

Sweden's telecoms regulator, the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has decided to distribute a proposed decision concerning the GSM900 band for consultation. The proposal involves the renewal of existing licences in the 900 MHz band, but also that the entire frequency space available in the 900 MHz band should be allocated, which would enable 3G operator, hi3g to gain access to frequency space in the 900 MHz band. In addition, it would be possible for operators to progress to new technology and supply wireless broadband to a greater extent.  more

Sweden Finishes "4G" Spectrum Auction

Sweden's telecoms regulator, the PTS has announced that its spectrum auction in the 2.6 GHz band has been concluded, after 16 days of bidding and 112 bidding rounds. Five bidders have won licenses for the total amount of SEK2,099,450,000 (US$348 million).  more

Fourth 3G Licence for Norway

Norway's telecoms regulator has announced plans to offer a fourth 3G license in the country. An application from the company Novotel has initiated a new assignment procedure. The application received concerns the frequencies 1964.9-1979.7 / 2154.9-2169.7 MHz and 1900-1905 MHz, which in Norway are reserved for third generation public mobile communications systems (3G). more

HSDPA Upgrade For Sweden and Denmark

Ericsson has been selected to upgrade 3 Scandinavia's 3G/WCDMA networks with HSDPA. Ericsson will deliver commercial HSDPA hardware, software and implementation services. Deliveries have already begun, with a scheduled commercial launch in selected Swedish and Danish cities in the coming months. more
