US Teens Going Online Wirelessly Without Limits or Controls
A survey of US internet users has found that the majority of teenagers who access the internet via a mobile phone have no parental or software based restrictions on what content they can view. In total, the Cox Communications funded survey found that nineteen percent of teens surveyed go online via their cell phone and 19 percent say their parents are unaware. The vast majority of teens (80 percent) whose parent know they go online via their cell phone say they are not given any limits or controls -- far fewer than are given boundaries on their desktop PC or laptop. more

25th Anniversary of the 1st Commercial Mobile Phone Call
The US wireless industry trade body, the CTIA has noted that this month marks the 25th anniversary of the first commercial cellular call in the United States. The first commercial cellular call was placed on October 13, 1983 to the grandson of Alexander Graham Bell in Germany from the president of Ameritech Mobile Communications at a ceremony held outside of Soldier Field in Chicago, IL. This transatlantic conversation launched the nation's first citywide commercial cellular system. more

US Consumers Want Ban on Cellphone Voice Calls on Planes
Nearly three out of four US consumers agree that mobile phone usage on airplanes should be restricted to silent features only according to a new survey commissioned by Yahoo! and conducted by Harris Interactive. The survey demonstrates that U.S. consumers also view their mobile phone as more than just a phone, itÃ's a computer in their pocket with a wide variety of features. Cell Phone Usage Continues to Increase in the USA
According to a Harris Interactive survey, the use of cell phones is increasing and traditional landline telephone coverage is decreasing. In fact, one in five US adults do not have a landline and only 79 percent currently do. One in seven adults now uses only cell phones. Furthermore, while the use of cell phones among younger segments of the population has been widely reported, the technology is becoming increasingly popular among older populations as well. Remarkably, about half of U.S. adults who only use a cell phone are 30 or over. One-third of 18 to 29 year olds only use a cell phone or the Internet for making phone calls. more

Consumers Increasingly Embracing M-Commerce and Mobile Banking
A new Harris Interactive study finds that mobile phone users are increasingly comfortable making banking and purchase transactions while on-the-go - a virtual taboo until now. The survey finds 16 percent of mobile phone subscribers already use mobile banking services, with 60 percent of these people using the services at least once a week. Many others presently not banking and buying on-the-go expressed interest in mobile banking, with 35 percent open to checking bank account balances and transferring funds via their mobile devices. more
