Telecom Italia Mobile Lost 1.5 Million Customers in 2008
The Italian market lost a total of 135k customers over the year, with net losses in Q2 and Q4 trumping the smaller net gains in the other two periods. The year closed with a total base of 88.58m, compared to 88.72m, while penetration dropped from 152.6% to 152.4%. more

More problems for Blu break-up
Speaking to the Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, Italy's Communications Minister Maurizio Gasparri conceded that the Italian market can only support three GSM networks. He was commenting on the breakup of the assets of the smallest GSM network, Blu which has been put up for sale. more

Italian GSM network to be asset stripped
The Italian GSM network, Blu has decided to split itself up and sell its assets to four of its competitors, having failed to find a buyer who wanted to keep the company intact. Blu says that it has submitted details of the plan to Italy's Communications Ministry and it would be conditional on approval from both the Italian and European regulators. more

Italian media has reported over the weekend that Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) is close to buying the Blu GSM network. Blu's leading shareholders, motorway operator Autostrade and BT , put the group up for sale more than a year ago after it controversially withdrew from Italy's 3G auction. The company is also still loss making and urgently needs a cash injection to keep operating. more
