GSMA-Led Task Force Defines Requirements for an Embedded SIM Card

­The gsma, along with a group of mobile operators, today announced it has finalised the market requirements for the development of a standardised embedded SIM. The task force, formed recently to explore the development of a new SIM solution that can be remotely activated and used in a number of different devices, will submit the results of its analysis to ETSI, the telecommunication standards body, by the end of February 2011.  more

GSMA Working on Embedded SIM Cards with Remote Activation

Visa Works with GSMA to Extend Access to Mobile Financial Services

Credit card merchant, Visa has announced plans to work with the GSM Association to advance the delivery of mobile financial services around the world. As part of the continuing collaboration between the two organizations, the gsma has selected Visa as a provider for mobile money transfer solutions globally, and is working to execute an agreement to formalize participation terms.  more

Pakistan Raises Taxes on Mobile Phone Calls

The state budget for Pakistan in 2008-2009 has increased the taxes paid on mobile phone services from 15 percent to 21 percent - which is also higher than the 16 percent for other industry sectors. It is already being reported that the mobile operators expect the higher taxes will have a negative impact on their sales and subscriber growth.  more

GSM Association Aims for Global Point of Sale Purchases by Mobile Phone

The worldwide use of mobile phones for payments at point of sale is the aim of a new initiative announced by the GSM Association (gsma), the global trade organization for mobile operators. The 'Pay-Buy Mobile' initiative is a natural progression for the industry, following the gsma's program - announced last year - to define a common global approach to enabling Near Field Communications (NFC), the technology used to link mobile devices with payment and contactless systems. more
