Georgia Cancels Radio Spectrum Auction

O2 Seeking Review of German Radio Spectrum Allocations

Vimpelcom Increases Shareholding in Kazakhstan Operator

Vimpelcom's Kazakhstan subsidiary, KaR-Tel says that it has been granted radio spectrum in the gsm1800 band to compliment its existing GSM900 license. The company did not say how much it has paid for the license.  more

Hong Kong Plans Auction of Additional GSM Radio Spectrum

Hong Kong's telecoms regulator, Ofta has issued proposals to auction off additional gsm1800 radio spectrum. The regulator will be making available the radio spectrum of 4.8 MHz
x 2 in the 1800 MHz band (1780.1 - 1784.9 MHz paired with 1875.1 - 1879.9 MHz) to existing Mobile Network Operators for service expansion. The spectrum will be divided into six blocks for bidding.  more

Armenia to Offer a 3rd GSM License

Armenia is expected to launch a tender for the country's third GSM license this coming May - reports local newspaper, Panorama. The newspaper reports that the the tender details are still being confirmed, but will include spectrum in both the GSM900 and gsm1800 bands.  more

Celtel Expands Ugandan GSM Network

Celtel Uganda spent over US$80 million improving its network coverage - and capacity during last year, Operations Director, Siyabonga Zulu has said. In an interview with local newspaper, Daily Monitor, Mr Zulu said that as a result of their pro-active approach to network investments, Celtel Uganda remains the clearest network irrespective of the recent exponential surges in customer growth.  more

ZTE Wins Icelandic GSM Network Contract

Switzerland based Amitelo has announced that it will construct a gsm1800 network in Iceland in corporation with China's ZTE. The vendor is also financing the largest part of the project in the form of a supplier's credit amounting to around EUR7 million. After start of operations at the beginning of third quarter of 2008 in the capital Reykjavik, the construction of the network will have been finished by the mid of 2009.  more
