Tele2 and Telenor to Jointly Build LTE Network in Sweden

Sweden's Tele2 and Telenor have this morning announced plans to jointly build an LTE based network through a new joint-venture company. The new company will be responsible for network construction and sharing of spectrum for mobile communication and plans to start offering commercial services by the end of 2010.  more

Vietnamese Network Signs Network Upgrade Contract

Vietnam's Vinaphone has contracted with Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade its gsm network in 16 northern provinces with EDGE data services. The contract was signed through Alcatel-Lucent's Chinese subsidiary, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell. The deployment is currently underway and the expanded network will begin providing commercial services in April 2009.  more

Caribbean & Latin America - CDMA Enters its "Sunset" Phase

The technology story in the Caribbean & Latin America (CALA) region is simple: most US based technologies are in full retreat, while the international gsm/W-CDMA standards are proliferating. During the quarter, the number of customers connected to AMPS, TDMA and CDMA systems declined by 4.4m overall, bringing the number of disconnections so far this year to 19.9m, or 5.2% of the starting base.  more

Harris Stratex Networks to Expand Network Backbone in Gambia and Sierra Leone

Network Coverage Expansion for Rural Alaska

Tecore Networks has announced that Ningiq - a joint venture of ASTAC and OTZ, two telephone cooperatives providing mobile communications services in Northern Alaska - has again selected Tecore's products to offer converged gsm and CDMA voice and data services throughout the region. Ningiq first deployed Tecore systems starting in August 2007, and has now followed that installation with an expansion order that more than doubles the number of sites served.  more

Nepal Telecom Orders Satellite Capacity for Mobile Backhaul

Gilat Satellite has won a contract to provide Nepal Telecom with a SkyEdge broadband satellite communications network, offering rural internet coverage and also mobile backhaul facilities. Nepal Telecom will use the new VSAT network to deliver broadband Internet connectivity to remote areas and to provide toll-quality telephony to rural citizens, meeting its Universal Service Obligations.  more
