Nokia Shows Off 3rd NFC Capable Mobile Phone
Nokia has shown off its third fully integrated Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile phone, the Nokia 6216 classic. The new arrival is Nokia's first SIM-based NFC device which enables operators to build NFC services on to the SIM card. The Nokia 6216 classic is expected to start shipping in the third quarter of 2009 in select markets with an estimated retail price of EUR 150 before taxes and subsidies. more

EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies
Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007. more

Desktop Computers are Ceding Ground to Mobile Enabled Laptops
Laptops outstripped desktops for the first time in terms of revenue due to a higher average sale price (ASP). Frost & Sullivan believes another could follow this first in 2009, when laptop unit sales will exceed that of desktops, globally. Analysis from Frost & Sullivan finds that the market earned revenues of US$137.3 billion in 2008 and estimates this to reach US$211.4 billion in 2014. more

Indian debt ratings agency, ICRA has assigned a long-term rating of LAAA each to the Rs. 30 billion Non-Convertible Debenture (NCD) Programme and the Rs. 100 billion proposed Long-Term Fund-Based Facilities of Reliance Communications (RCOM). China's CCID Consulting has reported that after a period of rapid growth over the past few years, the Chinese mobile handset chips market experienced a conspicuous decline in 2008.
