Nokia Siemens Networks says that its delivered mobile softswitching (MSS) system capacity has passed the 1 billion user mark. This landmark achievement means Nokia Siemens Networks’ solution is used for 40% of mobile softswitching worldwide and for over a quarter of all connections in those mobile networks based on the gsm family of standards. more

Bouygues Telecom to Trial Alcatel-Lucent's IMS Platform

Huawei Launches Vodafone Co-Developed Base Station for Rural Areas
Huawei says that it has launched a 2G base station (BTS) designed for use in rural communities in developing markets. Dialog Telekom Chooses GSMA's PathFinder Service
Sri Lanka's Dialog Telekom has signed up to the gsm Association's PathFinder Service, a gsmA-managed service operated by NeuStar that provides the missing link for operators as they make the move to all-IP mobile networks, tackling critical issues around routing, interoperability, number resolution and service and revenue assurance. By automatically translating phone numbers into IP addresses, PathFinder will help Dialog Telekom to facilitate the delivery of a wide variety of new feature rich IP-based services as well as ensure quality of service. more

Switzerland to Permit 3G at 900Mhz - Extends Licenses
Switzerland's telecoms regulator, ComCom has renewed the gsm mobile telephony licences of Orange, Sunrise and Swisscom until the end of 2013. All the countries gsm licences, which were provisionally extended in April 2008, will now all expire at the same time (Swisscom, Sunrise, Orange and In&Phone). This gives ComCom an opportunity to implement a comprehensive reallocation of all the mobile telephony frequencies which are free today or which will become free in 2013 or 2016. more

Taiwan Debates Renewing GSM Licenses in 2012
There is a dispute amongst Taiwan's mobile network operators over the fate of the existing gsm licenses which are due to expire in 2012.
