GSM-R Deployment Completed in Norway

Nokia Siemens Networks has announced that a gsm-r network built by the company in Norway has now gone live. The new digital gsm-r mobile network replaces five different analog networks for the communication between train sets and control centers. The network will increase traffic security for Norwegian trains by ensuring seamless communication for employees along any tracks, totally independent of the location of the train and also when inside tunnels.  more

Worlds highest railway getting GSM-R

China's Ministry of Railways has selected Nortel to provide a digital wireless communications network for the world's highest altitude rail service - the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. This will be the first commercial use of GSM for Railways (gsm-r) technology in China, following a pioneering, year-long trial of Nortel's technology over more than 186 kilometers of track built on perennially frozen land at altitudes up to 4,780 meters above sea level. more

Siemens wins GSM-R contract

The Belgian national rail company, SNCB-NMBS, is the seventh European rail company to have chosen Siemens Mobile for the installation of its gsm-railway (gsm-r) network. This framework agreement over four years foresees the nationwide rollout of a gsm-r mobile network in Belgium along 3,000 km of track and covers the entire network infrastructure including terminals. more

Slovak Republic getting a GSM-R network

Nortel Networks has won a GMS-R contract from Kapsch CarrierCom on behalf of Slovak Railways. Under an agreement Nortel Networks will supply Kapsch CarrierCom with a complete network infrastructure solution -- including gsm-r compliant radio base stations and switching equipment -- to connect Slovak Railways to the railway communications networks of the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary. more
