Nortel Wins Lithuanian GSM-R Contract
Lithuanian Railways has ordered a gsm-r network from Nortel, which is to be installed by local partner, Belam. The EUR50.5 million (US$74.3 million) contract includes the implementation of a gsm-r radio communication system along more than 1,563 kilometres (approximately 88% of the country's rail network) of Lithuania's rail routes. This is the first gsm-r network implementation in the Baltic region. The project is partially funded by the European Community Cohesion Fund for European regional development. more

GSM-R Deployment Completed in Norway
Nokia Siemens Networks has announced that a gsm-r network built by the company in Norway has now gone live. The new digital gsm-r mobile network replaces five different analog networks for the communication between train sets and control centers. The network will increase traffic security for Norwegian trains by ensuring seamless communication for employees along any tracks, totally independent of the location of the train and also when inside tunnels. more

Nokia Siemens Wins Chinese GSM-R Contract
Nokia Siemens Networks has won a contract to provide a gsm-r network for China's Hefei-Nanjing high-speed passenger railway. The 166 kilometer-long Hefei-Nanjing Line, connecting the capitals of Anhui and Jiangsu provinces in the Yangtze River Delta, is an integral part of the "Four Longitudinal and Four Horizontal" Passenger Service Network. The line, to be put into operation in early 2008, will become China's first newly built passenger-dedicated line for commercial use at speeds of 200 km/h. more

Argogroup Sells its GSM-R Business
Comtest Wireless says that it has acquired Argogroup's gsm-r testing business for an undisclosed sum. Comtest is already established in the provision of gsm-r testing solutions and, as part of the deal, will take full management and support responsibility for Argogroup's six gsm-r customers. Under the terms of the deal, Argogroup will provide software development and engineering support to Comtest on a paid-for basis when the latter deploys Argogroup-developed gsm-r software and hardware. more
