Kazakhstan Operator Commissions 3,500th Base Station
Kazakhstan based mobile network operator, Kcell says that it has commissioned its 3,500th base station - expanding its coverage to all villages with a population of more than 5000 people and in 85% of villages with a population of more than 2000 people. Kazakhstan - Chance of 100% by the end of the year
The penetration rate in the Kazakh mobile market is rapidly catching up with that in Russia, with another 6pp being added in Q2 08. At the end of June the total reached 89%, almost 30pp up on the rate recorded 12 months earlier. In absolute terms this translated to a total connection base of 13.65m at the end of the second quarter, up 0.93m from 12.72m at the end of the first. more

Kazakhstan - K'CELL Consolidates Lead as Penetration Reaches 83%
The number of mobile connections in Kazakhstan reached 12.7m at the end of Q1 08, an increase of 4.7m or 58.3% year on year. Although this is slightly below the annual growth rates recorded in Q3 (72.1%) and Q4 07 (69.2%), it is nonetheless an impressive figure, and it is a considerable increase on the 40.0% recorded in the prior twelve months. Penetration reached 83.1% at the end of the quarter, by far the highest rate in Central Asia. more
