EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies

Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007.  more

GSMA Hosts Interoperability Testing

The GSM Association (GSMA) and its partners have successfully completed a series of interoperability trials in both Europe and Asia - a major step towards ensuring that the next generation of multimedia services, based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and IMS, will work smoothly across networks right from launch. more

GSM to CDMA SMS interconnectivity agreed

TSI Telecommunication Services (TSI) and Belgacom have announced an agreement to launch bi-lateral signaling services and interstandard SMS for mobile carriers. Belgacom additionally will act as a signaling provider for TSI to provide inter-continental connectivity to GSM carriers. more

GPRS peering service for Asia

Asia's largest telco- independent Internet Communications Service Provider, Pacific Internet or PacNet says that it is leading a group of seven international leading GRX (GPRS Roaming Exchange) providers to commercially launch Asia's first neutral Peering Point for GPRS roaming, Peering Singapore. The seven GRX providers include Aicent, Belgacom, British Telecommunications, Cable & Wireless, Infonet Services Corporation, REACH and TeliaSonera. Belgacom and Cable & Wireless have already inked formal agreements with PacNet to use the GRX Peering Point immediately. more
