Industry predicts 21 Mbps to be next mobile broadband baseline

Mobile broadband is continuing to grow at a fast pace due to the ever increasing introduction of new technologies, new networks, new devices and competitive innovation in the market. In July, the Global mobile Suppliers Association (gsa) announced that 7.2 Mbps had become the new baseline for mobile broadband globally, since at that time half of the HSPA networks in commercial service globally were capable of supporting a peak downlink data speed of 7.2 Mbps or higher, supported by almost 600 user devices capable of 7.2 Mbps or higher which had been launched in the market. Some HSPA systems support a peak downlink data speed up to 14.4 Mbps.  more

EU Moves Closer to Approving 3G at 900Mhz

Alaska Communications Systems Launches Rev A Technology

Alaska Communications Systems (ACS) says that it has launched EV-DO Rev A Mobile Internet technology on its network. ACS was the first communications provider to offer Alaska high-speed mobile data through its 3G CDMA network in 2004. Airvana was originally contracted to provide equipment for a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO trial network in 2003.  more

GSA Says Over 200 HSDPA Networks Worldwide

Over 200 HSDPA systems worldwide have launched commercial mobile broadband services, according to the latest research published by gsa, the Global mobile Suppliers Association. The gsa survey confirms 207 HSDPA networks have launched in 89 countries. This compares with 126 commercial HSDPA networks in 63 countries reported by gsa 12 months previously.  more

GSA Confirms 313 EDGE networks launched worldwide

The latest survey of GSM/EDGE network deployments by gsa, the Global mobile Suppliers Association has reported that EDGE networks are now commercially launched in 147 countries, compared to 113 countries in May 2007. EDGE is now widely available throughout Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. For example, EDGE is now available in several new markets in Africa.  more
