Mexican network looses Chief Exec.
Mexico's Grupo Iusacell has lost its chief executive, Peter Burrowes who has resigned, according to a short statement from the company. He has been replaced by Verizon Commnications' senior vice president for the Americas, Carlos Espinal. more

Mexican network passes 2 million subscriber mark
Mexico's Grupo Iusacell has reported a 13% increase in its cellular subscriber base compared with the end of the first quarter of 2001. With the first quarter's additions, the Company's subscriber base reached 1,995,257. On a sequential basis, the total subscriber base increased 8% from the fourth quarter of 2001, to 1,995,257 customers. On April 2, 2002, the Company surpassed the 2 million subscriber benchmark. Net additions in the first quarter 2002 totaled 140,000, a 61% increase over the same period in 2001, 141% over normalized fourth quarter 2001 and 89% over full year 2001 net additions excluding those pre-existing subscribers added as a direct result of the Portatel acquisition. At the end of the first quarter 2002, the Company's PrePay customer base grew to 1,611,000 customers representing approximately 81% of the total subscriber base. more
