Grameenphone to Raise $65 Million in Stock Market Floatation

Bangladeshi Confirms 3G Licenses by Next March

Bangladesh's telecoms regulator, the BTRC has confirmed that it plans to award 3G licenses in the country by March 2009 - a delay on earlier promises to offer the licenses by the end of this year. During the launch of a trial 3G network by Ericsson in August, BTRC chairman Maj Gen (retd.) Manzurul Alam put a valuation of US$200 million on the licenses.  more

Bangladeshi Operators Pay $204 Million for Extra Radio Spectrum

Bangladesh's telecoms regulator, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has sold a tranch of additional radio spectrum for US$204 million. Three incumbent operators brought the spectrum which the regulator said was necessary to cope with their increasing subscriber base.  more

Bangladesh to Require Mobile Network Infrastructure Sharing

Bangladesh's telecoms regulator, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has published its guidelines for Infrastructure Sharing. Under the procedures, the operators are to be encouraged to share aspects of their network infrastructure, subject to approval from the regulator.  more

Ericsson Trials 3G Network in Bangladesh

According to reports in various local media, Ericsson has set up a demonstration 3G network in Bangladesh. Under the project styled 'Alokito Bangladesh', the company will demonstrate 3G services, including mobile health and mobile learning, in Dhaka until October.  more

Second Bangladeshi Operator Plans Stock Market Listing

Bangladeshi mobile phone network operator, AKTEL has confirmed that it still intends to list its shares on the local stock market. The company is 70% owned by Telekom Malaysia International and the 30% remaining is currently in the process of being sold by A.K. Khan to Japan's DoCoMo for around US$350 million.  more

Bangladeshi Operators to Share Network Infrastructure

Bangladeshi operators, Warid Telecom and Pacific Bangladesh Telecom (Citycell) have signed an agreement to share their network infrastructure. Under the deal, signed earlier this week the two companies will share the passive elements of around 350 of their respective base stations - covering towers, poles, transmitter equipment, transmission bandwidth and power supplies.  more
