Second Bangladeshi Operator Plans Stock Market Listing

Bangladeshi mobile phone network operator, AKTEL has confirmed that it still intends to list its shares on the local stock market. The company is 70% owned by Telekom Malaysia International and the 30% remaining is currently in the process of being sold by A.K. Khan to Japan's DoCoMo for around US$350 million.  more

Bangladeshi Operators to Share Network Infrastructure

Bangladeshi operators, Warid Telecom and Pacific Bangladesh Telecom (Citycell) have signed an agreement to share their network infrastructure. Under the deal, signed earlier this week the two companies will share the passive elements of around 350 of their respective base stations - covering towers, poles, transmitter equipment, transmission bandwidth and power supplies.  more

DoCoMo Confirms Bangladesh Investment

Japan's DoCoMo has finally confirmed that it is buying a 30 percent stake in TM International (Bangladesh) Limited (TMIB), a mobile phone operator based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, by directly acquiring all stock in TMIB held by A.K. Khan and its four group companies.  more

DoCoMo Buys Stake in Bangladesh Operator - report

DoCoMo is reported to have won the battle with Vodafone for a 30 percent stake in Bangladesh based GSM operator, Aktel for around US$425 million. Sources told the Reuters news agency that a formal announcement will be made next week.  more

Huawei Wins Bangladeshi GSM Contract

Huawei says that it has signed a contract with Bangladesh's grameenphone for large-scale capacity expansion and enhancement of Next Generation GSM Core and Radio network. Million Customers Disconnected in Bangladesh

Upwards of a million SIM cards will have started to be disconnected in Bangladesh over the weekend as they have missed a deadline to have their user details registered with the operators. DoCoMo Bidding for Stake in Bangladesi Operator

Japan's DoCoMo is reported to have offered to buy the 30% stake in Bangladesh's Aktel which is currently owned by AK Khan, a privately owned textiles-to-telecoms company - and has been valued at around US$300 million. The move may be bad news for Vodafone which has previously reported to be negotiating to enter the Bangladeshi market through an acquisition of the same stake.  more

Warid Telecom Plans $250 Million Investment in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Faces the Loss of 3 Million Subscribers

Grameenphone Reports 18 Million Mobile Subscribers

Bangladesh's grameenphone has reported that during the first quarter of this year, the subscriber-base grew from 16.5 million at the end of last year to 17.8 million. The subscriber-base currently stands at over 18 million. The total revenue grew from BDT14.3 billion (US$210 million) to BDT14.9 billion (US$221 million) during the same period. The annual revenue last year stood at BDT54.4 billion (US$806 million).  more
