Taiwanese Mobile Phone Industry Gains from Low-Cost Handsets
Riding the wave of new handset demand running through emerging markets as well as healthy replacement demand in mature markets, global mobile phone shipments continued the strong pace. Registering an estimated 200 million units in the third quarter, worldwide mobile phone shipments are projected to reach an annual volume of approximately 772 million units by the end of 2005, a growth of 22.7% year-on-year. more

Demand for Cheaper Handsets Drives Taiwanese Export Market
In spite of the traditional slack season in the global mobile phone market, the Taiwanese mobile phone industry as a whole posted a total shipment volume of 29 million units, year-on-year growth of 13% in the first half of 2005. The main factors behind this growth were the increase in orders for value-line handsets from Motorola-which is collaborating with the GSM Association on the development of emerging markets - and Sony Ericsson's efforts to strengthen the value-line and mid-range segments of its product line. more

Fate of Taiwanese Mobile Phone Industry Linked to EMEA Nations
Taiwanese mobile phone industry shipment volume will grow by over 40% year-on-year to 18 million units in the second quarter of 2005, says Market Intelligence Center (MIC), a Taipei-based ICT industry research house. The increase is said to derive heavily from markets in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). more
