Orange Expands its 'EUR2 for 2MB' Travel Data Daily roaming tariff

France Telecom's Orange has announced the expansion of a EUR2 for 2MB mobile internet tariff for roaming customers. ­The EUR2 for 2MB Travel Data Daily roaming bundle, which launched in Spain and Romania in 2009, is now being rolled out to the UK, Poland, France, Slovakia, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium and Moldova. Across the Orange footprint, these bundles will be offered to existing customers on an opt-in basis.  more

Africa, Middle East to Lead Mobile Broadband Subscriber Growth by 2012

Africa and the Middle East will lead the world in terms of the percentage of mobile broadband subscriptions through 2012, according to a new report from Pyramid Research. Although Africa and the Middle East generated 10 percent of global mobile revenue in 2008, the region contributed only 3 percent of global mobile data revenue, notes Dearbhla McHenry, analyst at Pyramid Research and author of the report. However, the region will double its share of global mobile data revenue by 2014 due to its growing popularity of mobile broadband in the region, in rich and poor markets alike.  more

Mobile Data Revenue to Double by 2012

A report published by Pyramid Research says that mobile data will account for 29 percent of the global mobile service revenue in 2012, up from 19 percent in 2007. Clearly, the mobile data opportunity is soaring: the 2007 mobile data revenue was more than double what it was in 2004, and Pyramid Research expects it to double again to $300 billion by 2012.  more

Smart Mobile Device Shipments Jump 53% to 118 Million in 2007

The latest market data from analyst firm Canalys shows how much the converged device market (all smart phones and wireless handhelds) has grown over the past year. These, typically high-end, devices represented around 10% of the global mobile phone market by units in 2007, with annual growth of 60% making them one of the fastest growing segments of the technology industry. Year-on-year growth climbed every quarter throughout 2007, to reach a peak of 72% in Q4.  more
