Africa, Middle East to Lead Mobile Broadband Subscriber Growth by 2012

Africa and the Middle East will lead the world in terms of the percentage of mobile broadband subscriptions through 2012, according to a new report from Pyramid Research. Although Africa and the Middle East generated 10 percent of global mobile revenue in 2008, the region contributed only 3 percent of global mobile data revenue, notes Dearbhla McHenry, analyst at Pyramid Research and author of the report. However, the region will double its share of global mobile data revenue by 2014 due to its growing popularity of mobile broadband in the region, in rich and poor markets alike.  more

EU Moves Closer to Approving 3G at 900Mhz

Emerging Markets Mobile Penetration to Rrise from 46% in 2008 to 95% by 2013

Mobile penetration rates are forecast to rise from 46% in 2008 to 95% by 2013 according to a new survey of 34 emerging market countries published by Tariff Consultancy. Already subscribers in the 34 countries total over 2.1 billion users (based on operator statistics as of mid-2008) which accounts for half of the world's mobile users (based on ITU estimates). By 2013 the 34 countries will have grown to 4.3 billion mobile users and will account for around two thirds of global mobile users  more

GSA Says Over 200 HSDPA Networks Worldwide

Over 200 HSDPA systems worldwide have launched commercial mobile broadband services, according to the latest research published by GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association. The GSA survey confirms 207 HSDPA networks have launched in 89 countries. This compares with 126 commercial HSDPA networks in 63 countries reported by GSA 12 months previously.  more
