Global sales of Mobile Phones will approach a billion in 2006

The research firm gfk has announced that the worldwide mobile phone market continued its strong growth in 2005, with new technologies and developing countries having a positive impact. gfk's research shows the worldwide market for Mobile Phones in 2005 was 812 million units, representing a growth of 18% over 2004 when 685 million units were sold. While the total market has grown by 18%, 2005 saw sales of WCDMA Mobile Phones grow by 124%. more

'Golden Week' Sales of Mobile Phones in China Up 27.2%

Latest weekly mobile phone sales data from gfk Asia show China achieved the highest average of the year at 689.3K units from the weekly average of 541.9K exceeding the weekly average in 2005 by 27%. Hong Kong unit sales were up 9% at 73,391 in the week of 2 May compared to the moving 18-week average, with sales value up 11.1% at US$20,323,587. This hike in sales is attributed to the Labor Day 'Golden Week' in China. more

gfk Asia has released its 2004 Pan Asian Mobile Phone summary which shows the region's dominant mobile phone market continued robust growth in 2004 with year on year volume sales up 19% and sales growth of 12% projected for 2005, reflecting the strong market dynamics of mobile phone technology in the region. Of the ten Asian countries surveyed by gfk Asia, China continues to dominate the market, accounting for 61% of all units sold and with volume sales up 24% year on year. more

Siemens claims top position in Eastern Europe

According to the April 2003 gfk study, Siemens Mobile is Eastern Europe's leading mobile communication equipment supplier. The three new mobile phones that were debuted in Moscow yesterday are intended to win further market share. In contrast to Western Europe, the mobile communication market in Eastern Europe is posting double-digit growth rates, and growing by more than 100% a year in the region's largest market, Russia. Siemens says that it is the market leader here in mobiles, cordless phones and mobile communication networks. more
