Worldwide Mobile Phone Sales Down 6% - Smartphones Up 27% in Q2
Worldwide mobile phone sales totalled 286.1 million units in the second quarter of 2009, a 6.1 per cent decrease from the second quarter of 2008, according to gartner. ZTE Aims to be a Top-5 Phone Manufacturer This Year
China's ZTE is close to breaking into the top-5 of global handset manufacturers after it saw handset shipments jump by 40% in 2008 to reach 45 million units, according to the Taiwan based DigiTimes publication. The company had set itself a target of gaining a top-5 placement by 2011, but did accept that shrinking market share in competitors could bring that date forward. more

Motorola Expected to Announce "Google Phone" Plans this Week
The new head of Motorola's mobile phone division, Sanjay Jha has decided that the company should focus the bulk of its efforts on developing phones based on the Google backed Android system.
