Worldwide Semiconductor Revenue Down in 2008 - Qualcomm Bucks the Trend

Worldwide semiconductor revenue totaled $255 billion in 2008, down 5.4 percent, or a decrease of $14.5 billion from 2007 revenue, according to the final market share analysis by gartner. Worldwide Semiconductor Revenue Declined $12 Billion in 2008

For only the fifth time in the last 25 years, the semiconductor industry will post a decline in revenue, with worldwide semiconductor revenue totaling $261.9 billion in 2008, a 4.4 percent decline from 2007, according to preliminary results by gartner.  more

Telecom Carriers Must Transform to Support New Services

Fixed and mobile telecom carriers in mature economies must start transforming their IT and service technologies into "IT and network factories" to support new services in the digital age, according to gartner. The research firm predicts that by 2012, half of the 20 largest carriers will offer new services only minimally related to telecommunications, and leading carriers in developed markets will be able to derive at least 15 per cent of their revenue from nontraditional sources.  more
