Telecom carriers spent $62 billion on outsourced services in 2008
Market research firm Infonetics Research is reporting that telecom carriers spent US$62 billion on outsourced services in 2008, and have plans to increase that spending. The report noted that the top revenue-generating tasks outsourced by service providers in 2008 include network maintenance, application service delivery, network build, and network planning and design. more

Fujitsu Launches "Colour Kindle" for Japanese Market
Japan's fujitsu Frontech has announced the commercial launch of its "colour Kindle" device, which it says is the world's first color e-paper mobile terminal. The fujitsu FLEPia features an 8-inch display screen capable of showing up to 260,000 colors in high-definition, in addition to being equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. more

The GSM Association (GSMA), and Microsoft have jointly published the results of the first-ever consumer study into mobile broadband computing that shows that there is a tremendous addressable - but currently untapped - market. The study highlights a 70 million unit opportunity, worth some US$50 billion in 2008, for notebook PCs in the high growth, mass market $500 -$1000 price range with built-in mobile broadband. more
