Marketers of radiation protection patches settle FTC charges
Distributors of the "WaveShield" cell phone radiation patches that claim to protect consumers by blocking up to 99% of electromagnetic ("EM") radiation emitted by cell and cordless phones have agreed to settle USA Federal Trade Commission charges that their claims are unsubstantiated and false. The settlement with Interact Communications, and its president, Sheldon Kalnitsky, bars false or unsubstantiated claims about radiation-blocking phone shields or other similar devices. more

Company shields itself from cellphone shield complaints
An argument has begun between a cell phone shield manufacturer and one of its distributors who has been targeted for misleading advertising by the USA's Federal Trade Commission. The manufacturer, Interact Communications has terminated the distributor, Comstar Communications and told Comstar to stop using the company trademark. The termination notice sent to Comstar Communications was contained in an overnight letter and fax to the California company sent March 1. This week, according to Interact, the package was returned unopened after Comstar returned it to Federal Express after having earlier accepted delivery. Interact said today further legal action is being considered. more

Phone shield companies sued in America
The USA's Federal Trade Commission has charged two companies that sold devices that purportedly protect users from electromagnetic radiation emitted by cellular telephones with making false and unsubstantiated claims. In two separate court actions announced today, the ftc alleges that Stock Value 1, and Comstar Communications falsely represented that their products block up to 97% or 99% of radiation and other electromagnetic energy emitted by cellular telephones, thereby reducing consumers' exposure to this radiation. According to the ftc, the defendants lacked a reasonable basis to substantiate their claims. The Commission is seeking permanent injunctions, consumer redress, and other equitable relief. more
