Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom Orders Next-Gen IMS Platform
Nokia Siemens Networks has sealed a deal with Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom for its Next Generation Network IMS (NGN IMS). This is the first contract award from Chunghwa for its five-year NGN plan. Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver to Chunghwa infrastructure and services as part of its IMS Core solution, and will also provide its consumers and business customers VoIP and fixed softswitching solutions. These should enable Chunghwa to be the first operator in Asia-Pacific to introduce IMS-based VoIP services. more

Unnecessary Mobile Costs Hit British Businesses
British businesses may be leaking money through inefficient use of work mobile phones, according to a new survey from Inclarity, the hosted Voice over Internet (VoIP) provider. The research, conducted in September 2007 in conjunction with YouGov, polled 2,003 people across Britain and revealed that 31 per cent of employees who work in an office make work-related calls from their mobiles when in the office more than two or three times a week. Of those, 65 per cent make work-related calls from their mobile phones more than two times a day. more

Consumers Adopting Dual Mode Phones for Fixed Mobile Convergence While Enterprises Lag Behind
Led by consumer demand, fixed mobile convergence (fmc) is taking off around the world, even as businesses watch from the sidelines, says a new study from Insight Research. According to the new market research report, over the next five years fmc will generate more than $35 billion in revenue for service providers and hardware vendors. fmc service allows the same handset to access telecommunications services through both fixed and cellular networks. The handset, which can toggle between fixed and mobile calling, can also leverage WiFi hotspots, voice over IP (VoIP) technology, and voice over wireless local area networks (WLANs). more

Huawei Selected by Warid to Deploy IMS in Uganda
Huawei says that Warid Group, the fast-growing mobile service provider in South Asia and Africa, has selected it to deploy an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) system in Uganda. Huawei will construct the IMS core network and integrate it with the WiMAX access network, helping Warid to offer VoIP and IP-based multimedia services. more
