Spansion and Samsung Settle Patent Litigation Lawsuit:

Spansion, the world's largest pure-play provider of Flash memory solutions, has announced that it has settled its patent litigation lawsuits with Samsung Electronics. As part of the settlement, Samsung will pay Spansion US$70 million and Spansion and Samsung Electronics Company have exchanged rights in their patent portfolios in the form of licenses and covenants subject to a confidential settlement agreement.  more

Consumer Weakness Drives Negative Outlook for Semiconductors in 2009

Debt ratings agency, Fitch says that its 2009 Rating Outlook for the semiconductor industry is negative due to a meaningfully weaker macroeconomic environment, resulting in lower revenues for all semiconductor markets and, in particular, PCs and mobile handsets, which represent nearly 60% of global semiconductor consumption. While the overall market will be lower, Fitch expects developing economies will experience lower albeit still positive unit growth.  more

Spansion Sampling Flash Memory for Mobile Phones

Flash memory developer, Spansion says that it has started sampling its 65nm MirrorBit Eclipse Flash memory solutions for mobile phones to strategic OEM customers. Production in volume is planned at Spansion's new flagship 300mm SP1 fab in Japan in the second half of 2008.  more

Flash Memory in Casio Cellphones

Spansion, the Flash memory venture of AMD and Fujitsu has announced that Casio Hitachi Mobile Communications has developed two new cellular handsets with 512 Mb NOR Flash memory, which uses stacked versions of Spansion's WS256N, a NOR Flash memory device based on the company's MirrorBit technology. The new G'zOne and A5512CA mobile phones developed by Casio-Hitachi and available now in Japan, integrate 80 MHz versions of the Spansion WS256N, the fastest frequency using two-bit-per-cell technology. In addition, Spansion has proven that the WS256N has headroom to spare, providing a platform for wireless designs with frequencies up to 108 MHz. more
