Shakeups Rock 1H08 Top 20 Semiconductor Supplier Ranking

IC InsightsÃ' recent research for its Strategic Reviews Online IC company database uncovered a big shakeup in the 1H08 top 20 semiconductor supplier ranking. There are eight U.S. companies in the top 20 (including three fabless semiconductor suppliers), six Japanese, three European, two South Korean, and one Taiwanese company (IC foundry supplier TSMC) in the ranking. As shown, it required at least $2.1 billion in 1H08 sales to make the top 20 ranking. Although the top four ranked companies remained the same, there were a number of "movers and shakers" up and down the remainder of the 1H08 ranking as compared to their full-year 2007 positions.  more

Qualcomm Enters Semiconductor Top-10 in Q2

Qualcomm, a US-based fabless semiconductor supplier, rose to the ninth position among global semiconductor suppliers in the second quarter, up from 13th in the first quarter. The seller of communications chips in the second quarter achieved revenue $1.4 billion, up 8.6 percent from $1.3 billion in the first quarter. more

NEC ships 3G i-mode handset

NEC says that it has developed its first i-mode 3G terminal "N600i" for an operator outside Japan and has commenced delivery of the terminal for Cosmote, the largest mobile operator in Greece. Cosmote, celebrating i-mode's first year in the Greek market, is the first i-mode operator in the world, after NTT DoCoMo in Japan, to introduce the 3rd Generation i-mode, next generation innovative mobile Internet services. more
