Following riots in the Solomon Islands, Solomon Telekom Fault Engineers and Technicians have responded quickly to the total blackout of landline telephones in and around the Chinatown area. As of Thursday 20 April, Telekom's Fault and PABX rapid response units rigged temporary lines to Solomon Star, Forum Fisheries Agency and the Red Cross, restoring critical communication lines to these establishments. more

Post offices to offer mobile phone repair service
Mobilefone Repair, which manages handset repairs in fiji on behalf of Vodafone has signed an agreement that expanded its retail presence to all the post offices in the island nation. Mobilefone Repair has been operating in fiji for some time now with premises at Gordon Street, Suva and the service center has moved to new and larger premises and additional service equipment has been imported to help provide an even more extensive service. more

Vodafone fiji has purchased XIAM's Information Router to provide a variety of SMS information services. The announcement comes after very successful trials of the software during the 2001 Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament. The software enabled Vodafone fiji to deliver to its customers the latest information and results throughout the tournament. Users could simply text to a special number and have the requested information returned directly to their mobile phones by SMS. Vodafone Pacific posts strong figures
Vodafone Pacific has announced that it now has 2.15 million customers in its markets in Australia, fiji and New Zealand, a rise of 46% on the previous year. Vodafone New Zealand increased its customer base to 473,000 in the year to March, up from 182,000 at the end of March 1999. The Australian customer base rose from 971,000 to 1.44 million customers and the fiji market supported 23,000 customers." more
