CDMA Network Launched in Tanzania

A new network has launched in Tanzania, as Dovetel started its CDMA network in Dar-es-Salaam. The network, branded as Sasatel will expand its network in several phases over the next few years. OBSAI Forum doubles speed in Base Station RP3 standard

Asia-Pacific leads high-speed Internet connectivity, but wide divide prevails

The International Telecoms Union (ITU) has reported that while some Asia-Pacific economies are world leaders in information and communication technologies (ICT) where broadband access is ultra-high speed, affordable and close to ubiquitous, in most of the regionÃ's poorer countries Internet access remains limited and predominantly low-speed. MTN South Africa Plans $185 Million Fibre Spend

MTN South Africa says that it plans to build its own fibre backbone to reduce its operational costs and cut its reliance on the increasingly unreliable landline operator, Telkom SA. With a expenditure of some R1.4 billion (US$185 million) on a 5000km fibre optic cable network in major metropolitan areas, the company aims to save some R6.3 billion (US$835 million) in operational costs over the next ten years.  more

Nokia Siemens Wins Optical Backbone Contract in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and HerzegovinaÃ's BH Telecom has awarded a contract to Nokia Siemens Networks for a fibre optic network which includes Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology. Nokia Siemens NetworksÃ' DWDM network based on the SURPASS hiT 7300 platform will provide BH Telecom with a transport backbone, anticipating the future transmission volumes from the emerging data traffic.  more
