Alcatel-Lucent Starts Shipping 700Mhz Based LTE Base Staions

Alcatel-Lucent says that following certification from the U.S. telecoms regulator, the fcc, it is now shipping its 700 MHz LTE base stations to service providers in the United States. With this, Alcatel-Lucent has become the first vendor to have fcc-certified LTE base stations available, a key requirement for sales in the U.S. market.  more

Aircell to Use LTE for In-Flight Internet Backhaul

Aircell, a provider of in-flight communications has announced its intention to base its mobile broadband network on Long Term Evolution (LTE). Aircell says that it plans to deploy LTE to enable the next generation high bandwidth mobile services such as hi-definition and interactive TV and multi- player immersive gaming that passengers will come to expect.  more

Clearwire Aims for 31 Million WiMAX Subscribers by 2017

US WiMAX operator, Clearwire - which has been formed from the merger of the Clearwire and Sprint Nextel divisions expects to have some 1.3 million subscribers by the end of 2009 and 4.6 million by the end of 2010. The company is forecasting revenues of over $17.5bn by 2017, by which time the company expects to have around 31 million subscribers.  more
