US Regulator Investigating T-Mobile Shareholding

Deutsche Telekom is facing an investigation into its ownership of T-Mobile USA which could potentially result in the company being forced to sell a stake in the firm. The investigation was sparked by the pending merger of Verizon Wireless and Alltel, which has prompted the US telecoms regulator, the fcc to take a look at foreign-controlled assets held by the companies.  more

Small US Operators Form Trade Purchasing Body

Twenty-eight independent mobile operators and commercial mobile license owners in the USA have established a new company, NextGen Mobile, to help promote the existence of small and rural wireless companies throughout the country. The company grew out of a year-long dialog between existing mobile operators and winners of Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) and 700 MHz licenses in recent fcc auctions.  more

Wireless Data Revenues Expected to Realize 34% Annual Growth Thru 2011

As bandwidth consumption continues to grow, communications revenues over the next few years are expected see a 10% annual growth rate in the US reaching $1.3 trillion by 2011. FCC's T-Mobile Test Shows Movement on Spectrum Sale

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Federal Communications Commission next week will take a step toward auctioning off a new block of channels and requiring the winning bidders to offer free Internet. fcc engineers, at the behest of T-Mobile USA, will fly out to the company's lab near Seattle to test whether wireless Internet uploads on those airwaves will interfere with T-Mobile's connections.  more

T-Mobile USA Still Expecting Google Phone in October

Despite various (denied) reports of delays, T-Mobile USA is still expecting to launch a smartphone powered by the Google promoted OS, Android this coming October. Sources have told the New York Times that the phone is expected in October, but will certainly be on sale before Christmas.  more
