Indonesia's Telkomsel surges forward as rivals falter
The Indonesian market has seen phenomenal growth in recent quarters, but in Q1 09 there was a definite cooling off. The previous seven quarters had seen net additions in excess of 7m, with a peak of 14.94m in Q3 08, but in Q1 09 there was a gain of just 4.47m. This was the lowest figure since Q3 06. The total market reached 144.64m with penetration at 56.8%. Although Annual growth was still impressive at 41.0%, despite falling from 48.2% in the prior twelve-month period, but on a quarterly basis the uplift of 3.2% was the lowest for more than ten years. more

Indonesia's XL Loses 1 Million Customers
Indonesia's PT excelcomindo Pratama (XL) has reported a drop in its subscriber base by around a million customers during the first quarter. The company put this down to a decision to raise the purchase price of its prepay SIM cards. more

Indonesia's XL Cancels Towers Sale
Indonesian operator, PT excelcomindo Pratama (XL) has cancelled plans to sell its portfolio of 7,000 towers and will use tap its shareholders in a rights issue to raise funds for its network expansion. The company said in a filing with the local stock exchange that the interested bidders were not willing to pay an acceptable price for the towers. more

Indonesia Subscriber Growth Reports Another Record Quarter
The Indonesian market achieved a record figure for quarterly net additions in Q3 08 with an increase of 15.5m, 2m higher than the previous record, which was set in Q2 08. This took the number of connections in Indonesia to 131.64m, with annual growth of 57.1% compared to 47.9% for the prior twelve months. more

Excelcomindo Q2 - 85% price crash boosts connections by 124%
After three quarters of solid growth of between 2.5m and 3m new customers, Indonesian operator excelcomindo (XL) has put in a record performance of 4.50m net additions in Q2 2008, to boost its total by 24.5% in just three months. In fact, the number represented a fourth consecutive quarterly record, leaving the rolling annual total at an impressive 12.7m - an incredible seven times what the operator managed in the prior 12 month period. Annual proportionate customer growth stood at 124.5% - the highest rate recorded by the operator since the late 1990s, when it was in its infancy with fewer than 500,000 connections. more
