Cost of Supporting Mobile Broadband is Eroding Subscriber Profitability

Mobile broadband services are more expensive to support than any other wireless service and are endangering subscriber profitability for many mobile network operators concludes a new study from WDSGlobal. The study found that the cost to support mobile broadband products and services is up to 200% greater than the cost to support traditional wireless products such as mobile phones. This means that despite revenue uplift from increased data usage, actual subscriber profitability often remains unchanged and sometimes even worsens.  more

Qualcomm Introduces 2nd-Gen Embedded Module for Mobile Internet Access

Qualcomm has introduced its second-generation embedded Gobi module, delivering multi-mode 3G mobile Internet access on either HSPA or CDMA2000 ev-do networks in markets around the world. The Gobi2000 module offers a wide range of enhancements, including support for additional radio frequencies, increased data speeds, enhanced GPS functionality and support for additional operating systems such as Windows 7.  more

Qualcomm Doubles CDMA2000 Voice Channel Capacity

Qualcomm says that it has developed new enhancements to CDMA2000 network technology which supports more than double today's capacity of 35 simultaneous calls in 1.25 MHz of spectrum while delivering the same level of voice quality.  more

Four New WiMAX Devices from Samsung

Samsung Electronics has unveiled its four latest Mobile WiMAX devices to the Korean market. The devices have been upgraded from previous Mobile WiMAX devices in terms of design and functions. One PDA type(SPH-M8200), one mobile convergence device(SPH-P9200), and two USB modem type(SPH-H1300, SWT-200K) devices have been launched. All four Mobile WiMAX devices are currently available through Korea Telecom's Mobile WiMAX network.  more
