Android Explodes in Western Europe - Becomes the Biggest Smartphone OS in 4Q10

The Western european mobile phone market grew 3.2% year-on-year to 58.7 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to IDC's european Mobile Phone Tracker. ­Shipments of smartphones increased to 25.6 million units, 99.4% higher than in 4Q09, to represent 44% of total shipments. Feature phone shipments declined to 33.1 million units 24.8% down compared with the previous year.  more

Nokia to Open New Factory in Vietnam

­Nokia has announced plans to invest EUR200 million (US$276 million) in a new handset assembly factory, near Hanoi in northern Vietnam. The company said that further investments in the factory are expected after the factory opens in 2012. The site would further expand Nokia's manufacturing network, which currently consists of ten major facilities in nine countries.  more

Clarion and Nokia Team Up on Connected Car Technology

Nokia Swings into Quarterly Loss on NSN Write-Down

Nokia has swung into a 3rd quarter loss after it wrote down the value of its Nokia Siemens Networks joint-venture. Nokia reported a EUR559 million (US$836 million) loss after taking write-downs of EUR1.17 billion (US$1.74 billion) - mostly on a EUR908 million impairment at Nokia Siemens Networks - and a 20% drop in sales to EUR9.81 billion (US$14.6 billion).  more
