Majority of MENA Telcos Not Affected by Economic Downturn - So Far

While the financial crisis is darkening the mood of business forecasters around the world, the telecommunications industry in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) shows little inclination to be pessimistic, according to the results of a recent study from the consulting company Detecon International. Finland Awards Radio Spectrum for LTE Networks

Finland's TeliaSonera, Elisa and DNA have been allocated additional frequencies enabling them to start building fourth generation (LTE) mobile networks. The frequencies are located in the 1,800 MHz band, which will make Finland the first country in europe to allow the use of 4G LTE technology at such low frequencies.  more

Moody's changes outlook for Nokia' A1 rating to negative

Moody's has changed its outlook on Nokia's ratings to negative, from stable - although it affirmed the A1 ratings for Nokia's senior debt and the Prime-1 for short-term debt. The outlook change was triggered by Nokia's results for the first quarter 2009, which confirmed a double-digit rate of decline for the mobile phone market in units and a one third year over year revenue reduction for Nokia in this segment and it disclosed increasing earnings pressure in the Nokia Siemens Networks business.  more

Nokia Shows Off 3rd NFC Capable Mobile Phone

Nokia has shown off its third fully integrated Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile phone, the Nokia 6216 classic. The new arrival is Nokia's first SIM-based NFC device which enables operators to build NFC services on to the SIM card. Deutsche Telekom Issues Profits Warning - May Write Down T-Mobile Value
