IP Unity Glenayre says that its video mail technology has been selected for deployment in Saudi Arabia by local telecom operator, Etihad Etisalat (Mobily). The service will be the first deployment of Versera Video Mail in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia's Fixed Lines Growth Stalls As GSM Booms
Propelled to new heights by competition, GSM lines in Saudi Arabia grew at a high 44.8% rate in the first eleven months of 2005 to reach 13.3 million. Fixed line, however, grew at a meager 2.5% in the first nine months of 2005 according to a report from the Arab Advisors Group. During the period between 2002 and 2004, Saudi Telecom's mainlines subscribers grew at a low CAGR of 5.5%, reaching around 3.695 million subscribers. After witnessing a slight increase in the growth rates in 2003 and 2004, The first nine months of year 2005, showed the mainlines growth rate is to decline again, as the mainlines grew by 92 thousand translating into a 2.5% growth in the first nine months of 2005. more
